The Puzzle of Cracking

There are at least 9 different types of cracking that can occur in the weld area. They can show on parts during welding, after welding, under different conditions, at various locations, and via different mechanisms. They all look alike, but they are truly different and unique.

Cracks can be created in the weld, along the fusion line, in the weld heat-affected-zone, or in the unaffected based metal. Sometimes they can show up on parts after heat treatment. Depending on the size of the cracks, they may or may not be detected by nondestructive testing methods. The problem of cracking is not recognized as a major issue unless it significantly increases the production cost of the part or stops the production line entirely.
We have more than 40 years of experience in providing solutions for weld cracking issues to companies that manufacture, repair, or refurbish components in the aerospace, power generation, weapons, and chemical processing industries.
